Campaigns to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease and accurate blood pressure management kick off during American Heart Month
DAYTON, Ohio, Feb. 11, 2021
— Midmark Corp., a leading clinical environmental design company providing medical, dental and veterinary solutions that enable a better experience at the point of care, today announced its commitment to teammate heart heath as a sponsor of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign in Dayton and Cincinnati.
The campaign kicks off this month, American Heart Month, at each of the company’s ten locations and will help all teammates prioritize their individual heart health, including blood pressure management and CPR education.
“As a sponsor of the Go Red for Women campaign, Midmark is investing in the mission of the American Heart Association to bring lifesaving information to our teammates and their families, as well as Darke County and surrounding communities,” said Mitch Eiting, global philanthropic and corporate giving manager.
To further support the Go Red initiative, Erin Klotzbach Hyatt, senior client relations manager for Midmark is participating in the first-ever American Heart Association Women of Impact eight-week campaign where she will compete against four other nominees in the Greater Cincinnati area. During this campaign, Hyatt will increase heart health awareness and proper blood pressure screenings and drive fundraising for the American Heart Association.
Through Hyatt’s efforts, along with the Midmark Wellness Committee; Dr. Tom Schwieterman, chief medical officer; and other teammates, the company recently celebrated National Wear Red Day by providing blood pressure screenings at its Versailles location and other facilities. Midmark also provided education on the 7 Simple Tips to get an Accurate Blood Pressure Measurement and access to a CPR instructional video. A heart-healthy lunch was served by the company’s hospitality team and Chef Josh Hill.
“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we know that nearly half of American adults have high blood pressure,” said Tom Schwieterman, MD, MBA, chief medical officer, Midmark. “Because of its centrality in care, it is essential that blood pressure assessments are accurate in order to properly diagnose and treat hypertension—a major risk factor for coronary heart disease. At Midmark, we are in the business of healthcare, not just for our customers, but for our teammates, and want to equip our teammates with the knowledge of cardiovascular disease and managing their blood pressure.”
“Even as we are living in a world turned upside down by COVID-19, based on data provided by the CDC, Americans are about 50 percent more likely to die from heart disease and stroke than COVID-19,” added Schwieterman.
