Bringing Quality Healthcare to the Tribal Communities

By Kurt Forsthoefel, Marketing Director

Congratulations to our client, the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe (PGST), on the opening of its new health center. The Port Gamble S’Klallam Health Center opened on August 7 and is the only tribally owned and operated clinic in Kitsap County, Washington.

With the opening of the health center, PGST says that it can now provide medical, dental, and mental health care under one roof for the S’Klallam community and other tribal residents within the county.

Even before COVID-19, access to quality healthcare on tribal lands has been a constant struggle. The pandemic has exacerbated the healthcare disparities and introduced a host of new challenges and barriers. Facilities such as this provide much needed access to quality healthcare, and Midmark is honored to have played a role in bringing the new clinic to this community.

The two-story, 22,500-square-foot facility includes 10 exam rooms and 11 consultation rooms for medical services, as well as a private operatory and consultation room and a six-station open operatory for dental services.

Our Midmark team was involved from the very beginning of the design process, offering suggestions on the original exam room design and working closely with PGST and its architect to make sure they had the configuration, workflow and equipment in place to realize their vision of becoming a preeminent healthcare facility in the region.

This comprised the full ecosystem of Midmark offerings, including cabinetry, exam and procedure chairs, lighting, seating, mobile workstations, HEINE diagnostic instruments and digital diagnostics.

Midmark Delivery Service was also on-hand to ensure the entire experience was as seamless and painless as possible. This team of project coordinators and field project managers with their trained delivery and setup experts coordinated and handled the delivery and setup of all equipment and accessories, including installation of the cabinetry and systems integration of wall diagnostics.

We are eager to see the community response and the continued success of the health center. We also look forward to detailing the project in an upcoming case study.
