According to the Agency for Healthcare and Quality, 2.5 billion patients will set foot in exam rooms over the next decade. This is more than double every other site of care combined. How we design and equip exam rooms will have a massive and widespread impact on both patients and caregivers.
Topics we will discuss include: (1) What effect do changing age demographics have on the healthcare environment? (2) Understanding the safety risk of the traditional exam room (3) Exploring ADA accessibility in the exam room (4) Understanding the workflow inefficiencies of the traditional exam room (5) Ergonomics in the exam room (6) Infection prevention in the exam room (7) What tools are available to aid in exam room design and (8) Exploring design considerations and equipment specifications to address these needs.
Identify and describe the needs of at-risk patient demographics who receive care in exam rooms
Identify safety risks associated with patient falls and caregiver injuries in the exam room and prioritize them based on severity
Analyze the efficiency of a patient and provider movement patterns and workflow process during examinations
Identify and anticipate ergonomic and infection control challenges that patients and providers experience in the exam room
Prepare, plan and propose exam room designs that not only meet space requirements but also create a safe, dignified and efficient healing environment for both patients and caregivers
