Our Approach to Design
At Midmark, we harmonize clinical space, workflow and technology to design better care experiences.

There’s a story behind the data—47 percent of primary care physicians report not having spirometry devices; 36 percent of primary care physicians report the inability to incorporate spirometry into the patient flow; 75 percent of primary care physicians report not adhering to guidelines on spirometer use more than 90 percent of the time.
Asthma is one of the costliest diseases in the United States. Likewise, it is estimated that COPD will cost $49 million in 2020—strikingly, 75 percent of the costs are oftentimes preventable.
It’s time we talk about better COPD and asthma care.
The ability to perform basic spirometry testing is critical in primary care facilities today. Primary care physicians are ideally positioned to help detect and manage asthma in patients—but many caregivers do not offer spirometry testing due to the difficulty integrating it into the workflow or their level of comfort reading the test results.
Spirometry testing is the most effective and common method for diagnosing COPD; it is also the recommended test for confirming asthma. Spirometry also can support disease management decisions and provide indication of how well treatments are working.
Asthma and COPD have no cure and the resulting damage to the lungs cannot be reversed. However, with early detection using spirometry, caregivers can help patients feel better and stay active while slowing disease progression. A simple spirometry workflow at the primary point of care can help provide a better experience and improve patient outcomes.
Our new digital spirometer offers a simple and effective way to make the testing and managing of asthma, COPD and other pulmonary diseases a routine part of the patient care strategy. It works seamlessly with today’s top EMR systems for improved clinical workflow. Technician and patient coaching videos, including patient demonstrations and testing techniques, are also accessible directly from the main testing screen in the spirometer software to help standardize training and improve test results.
