Infection Control Officer
The Infection Control Officer, or ICO, plays an important role in helping the entire team turn training into daily practice. This dedicated teammate serves as a resource, encourager, and second set of eyes to help ensure instrument processing and infection control protocols are understood, followed, and continuously improved.
While every team member is responsible for safe and consistent instrument processing, the ICO receives additional resources to help support the team after training. These tools are designed to provide extra confidence, practical guidance, and extra confidence and practical guidance to help reinforce best practices, answer questions, identify gaps, and keep new protocols from fading over time.
This role is also a great opportunity for team members to grow as clinical leaders. We recommend rotating the ICO role periodically so multiple teammates have the chance to develop ownership, bring fresh eyes to the process, and help build a stronger culture of safety, accountability, and patient care.
