The overall promise of a fully connected point of care (POC) ecosystem is the creation of a clinical care ecosystem that supports the people in it and helps ensure a seamless healthcare experience. It can transform care spaces by harmonizing technology, workflow and equipment to establish clinical environments designed to enhance efficiency, clinical effectiveness, compliance and patient experience.

Midmark® IQvitals Zone is an example of what is possible as we work toward greater connectivity in ambulatory care. It connects to electronic medical records (EMRs) to facilitate data transmission and ensure the exact vital signs measurements are stored in the patient records. When used in conjunction with the Midmark 626 Barrier-Free® Examination Chair, which can allow proper positioning of patients to achieve more accurate blood pressure (BP) readings and weight measurement with the patient on the chair, patient data is transferred directly into EMRs to adhere to clinical guidelines for best practice BP measurement.

The recent introduction of DICOM compatibility for the Midmark Digital ECG is the next step bringing us closer to the promise of a fully connected POC ecosystem.

Seamless, real-time accessibility of clinical data

At Midmark, it’s our job to listen to our customers, understand their challenges and concerns, and offer solutions and ideas that fit within their environment to help them achieve their goals. We are always looking for opportunities to work closely with our customers to enhance the healthcare experience.

That is why we asked clinicians what we could do to improve ECG testing. They overwhelmingly told us they wanted an ECG that provides unified access of patient ECG data to both cardiology specialists and primary care providers within their preferred workflow.

The Digital ECG with DICOM Compatibility does this by combining intuitive software and advanced tools to streamline the physician review process—without changing how they work. It enables primary care teams to collaborate more efficiently with specialists across their care network without changing established ECG workflow.

With DICOM-enabled interoperability, the primary care team can simply acquire an ECG within their existing EMR. The data saves in the EMR and is automatically sent to the cardiologist’s CVIS. The cardiologist can review, edit or add comments within their preferred system, and the updated report syncs back to the EMR in real time. This ensures patient records reflect the most up-to-date ECG reading with cardiologist’s report and are accessible by care teams and cardiologists at any time.

Automating the storage and retrieval of ECGs in a DICOM-compatible system cuts down on manual tasks like scanning paper printouts or uploading PDFs. This gives primary care physicians more time to focus on patient care instead of administrative tasks. It also streamlines access for cardiologists. The increased collaboration provided by the device can help reduce turnaround times for second opinions or urgent consultations, which is especially critical in suspected cardiac events.

High signal quality for accurate reporting

The Midmark Digital ECG with DICOM Compatibility also generates high signal quality with low noise, creating high-quality waveforms for accurate reporting. This allows clinicians to confidently capture a cardiac signal and share accurate, reliable ECG data across networks for better coordination with cardiology specialists.

The device is designed to work with today’s top EMR systems in a variety of healthcare IT environments to help improve clinical outcomes, save time and reduce errors. Existing Midmark Digital ECG customers can upgrade their device to DICOM compatibility with the purchase of the license.
